Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is an international Catholic organisation, with a mission to accompany, serve and advocate on behalf of refugees and other forcibly displaced persons, who rank among the world’s poorest. JRS teams work with and for refugees, focusing on the dignity of each individual. JRS is present and work in more than 46 countries around the world. Our operations provide emergency relief, psycho-social assistance, advocacy and multi-level educational services to more than 730,000 refugees in dire need, far from home and safety. 

JRS undertakes services at local, national and regional levels with the support and guidance of an international office (IO) based in Rome. Who can join JRS?

JRS seeks staff and volunteers who share its vision of accompanying refugees and who are prepared for its complex tasks. JRS staff and volunteers are international, local professionals, Jesuits or members of a religious congregation. JRS seeks specialists in education, counselling, rehabilitation, management and related fields, and especially with experience in training others. There are also needs for people with technical skills, especially in communication, law, agriculture, project management and small-scale development work.

Operational Context/Role

The Counselling Programme Coordinator is the overall responsible person for the JRS Counselling & Mental Health Programme in Kakuma. Under the direction and supervision of the Kakuma Project Director, he/she will take responsibility for the overall leadership, administration and management of the activities under his/her portfolio.

The organisation was founded in 1980 and currently has a presence in 51 countries. JRS undertakes services at local, national and regional levels with the support and guidance of an international office (IO) in Rome. The style of JRS service is human and spiritual, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term well-being of refugees and displaced people, while not neglecting their immediate or urgent needs.

The main services provided are in the field of education, emergency assistance, psychosocial support and livelihood activities. Currently, more than 733,000 individuals are direct beneficiaries of JRS projects.


OPERATIONAL CONTEXT/ROLE

The JRS International Office in Rome is the head office of the Jesuit Refugee Service. It leads the organisational strategy and provides support and guidance in the areas of programmes, finance, advocacy, communications, fundraising and human resources to 10 regional offices worldwide.

To expand its fundraising efforts, JRS has created a new position of Fundraising and Development Officer, Individual Giving. We are looking for a self-starter with expertise especially in individual donor and digital fundraising to structure and grow our work in this area.

Reporting to the International Director of Philanthropy and Development, the Fundraising and Development Officer will be part of the Philanthropy and Development Department (a team of six people) leading the organisation’s global efforts in the acquisition of financial resources through fundraising from public and private sources.
