For World Refugee Day in June 2013, JRS Asia Pacific's Diakonia explores themes of hospitality, sanctuary and sustenance. Starting off with a Director's Letter on hospitality in a globalised world from the Asia Pacific Director, the issue then investigates West Papuan refugees' calls for greater rights in Papua New Guinea, advocates' criticism of the excision of territory and offshore processing and detention in Australia, and the need for an apology for displaced women forced to undergo marriage during the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia. Two project updates from Indonesia detail the emotional health impact of recreational outings on refugees held in detention and livelihoods for asylum seekers.

In Thailand and Indonesia, it includes news about the a detained woman who was able to return home, and a reflection about the value of hospitality. It highlights the voice of a Burmese refugee currently studying in Czech republic with a dream to return to help her community. The hardships faced by migrants, tools for peaceful conflict resolution in Timor-Leste, and the post-fire relief efforts by the refugee and NGO communities in Mae Hong Son are all illustrated through news items, campaign stories, and a letter from the Asia Pacific Regional Director.
