|Christmas message from JRS International Director|
The year has not been easy for forcibly displaced people. The number of refugees has risen to nearly 16 million while the number of internally displaced persons has reached 28 million. But numbers these big often begin to lose meaning. For this reason I invite you to have a look at this baby in the arms of her mother who had just arrived as refugee in Malta.
After a dangerous boat ride across the sea, she give birth to her child. Similarly, Mary, before having her child, also had to seek protection and shelter in the cold. This is now the story of millions of Syrians suffering from a terrible winter, on top of war and displacement, who often lack electricity, gas or other means to keep warm.
I would like to thank each one of you for your interest and support in different ways. Please keep refugees around the world in your hearts and prayers this Christmas season and into the new year. With your help, we will continue to reach out to the silent majority which longs for peace. God bless and merry Christmas.
